Kingussie Golf Club
This hidden gem of the Scottish Highlands features a magnificent 18-hole heathland course, where golf is played beneath ancient pine forests and dramatic mountain peaks.
Designed by the legendary Old Tom Morris and Harry Vardon, the course follows the banks of the River Gynack, revealing sweeping views across the Cairngorm and Monadhliath mountain ranges, among the finest panoramas in Scottish golf.
Short History

The story of Kingussie Golf Club begins in 1891, in a landscape where Highland wilderness and golfing tradition have long existed in harmony. Derived from the Gaelic for “head of the pine forrest”, Kingussie has remained true to its natural setting for more than a century.
The club’s original 9-hole course was laid out by the legendary Old Tom Morris, who recognised the remarkable potential of this elevated upland terrain overlooking the Spey Valley. His design embraced the natural contours of the heathland, establishing a course that felt inseparable from the surrounding landscape.
In 1908, the renowned Harry Vardon was invited to expand the layout to a full 18 holes. Working with the natural terraces, rolling moorland and riverside terrain, Vardon created a course that continues to reward thoughtful strategy and precise shot-making to this day.
What makes Kingussie truly special is the remarkable preservation of its original character. More than a hundred years later, the course remains largely unchanged, a rare and authentic example of Highland golf in its purest form. Fairways are still shared with native roe deer and red squirrels, while panoramic views across the Cairngorms provide an unforgettable sense of place throughout the round.
